On January 24, we held a coffee drinking party!
On January 24, the Center for International Exchange invited Mr. Asano, the chief barista at Coffee Carrot in Eniwa City, to talk about coffee and enjoy a cup of delicious coffee.
The world price of coffee is determined in New York and London. Since farmers do not usually have the right to determine the price, they can only buy coffee at the international price even if they produce good quality coffee, which causes poverty among coffee farmers. Coffee Carrot” supports coffee farmers in developing countries by making direct contracts with farmers to purchase high quality coffee at a fair price.
The Center for International Exchange provided students with information about these efforts and offered them a tasting of delicious coffee.
Participating students commented, “It was a lot of fun,” and “I learned about the farmers' lives for the first time.
The Center for International Exchange will continue to hold events from time to time to learn about global issues from people close to us.
