Students Participate as English Interviewers in Nanpolo-cho “English Trial”!

Students participated in the “English Trial” in Minami-Horo-cho as English interviewers! On December 3, 2022 and 2023, third-year students Yoshida, Sato, and Mori of the Department of International Communication in the Faculty of International Studies, TUFS, participated in the “English Trial” for junior high school students organized by the Nanboro Board of Education, and received high evaluations. They received high evaluations. This is an annual event held by the town of Minamihoro to improve the English communication skills of junior high school students, with the aim of “creating opportunities for children to try English conversation using English used in daily life, in order to increase their interest in English conversation.

It was a day of great success for three students from the Department of International Communication, Faculty of International Studies: Ms. Yoshida, who hopes to become an English teacher in the future; Ms. Mori, who was unable to participate in the summer English Camp in Minamihoro because she was studying abroad and was eager to take part this time; and Ms. Sato, who took on this challenge for the first time.

Ms. Sato commented, “Participating in the Nanpolo-cho English Trial this time allowed me to reaffirm my own awareness of communication through English. As a Japanese person, I think I was able to gain insight and enjoyment from using English to communicate with others, and to confirm my awareness of English. Although I am still inexperienced in English, I felt that this experience was a good opportunity for me to broaden my perspectives and horizons.”

In the School of International Studies, we provide many opportunities for students to go out and test their abilities in this way, to see where they are now, and to confirm the results of their past studies and their “ideal self” for the future. I hope that students will continue to learn through these opportunities.
